James Verry, known to most as Jim, is the 2017-2018 Staff Council Volunteer of the Year. Staff Council bestows this award upon the individual who contributes the most time and effort, amongst Staff Councilors, to philanthropic endeavors on campus and in the community. Every year Staff Council provides dozens of volunteers for various campus and community events, equaling hundreds of volunteer hours. Winning the coveted award is no small feat, as Jim contended with over 30 other councilors for the top spot. While it was a very close race, Jim was able to contribute his time and help to 8 events, many of which were brought to the attention of Staff Council through Jim’s efforts.
Jim, a member of the Staff Council Community Outreach Committee, brings a deep passion to Staff Council and volunteering in the community. This year, he created a new volunteer opportunity for Staff Council at the Iowa City Bird house, a hospice home, where volunteers got together to decorate the home for the holidays. Without the help of volunteers, the residents of the Bird House would have had no decorations for the holidays. Several residents shared their appreciation for our assistance, which was all thanks to Jim. Please help us at Staff Council recognize and appreciate the efforts of the 2017-2018 Staff Council Volunteer of the Year, Jim Verry.
