Education has always been a cornerstone value in Iowa. In a Guest Opinion in the Daily Iowan, Staff Council President, John Laverty argues eloquently to uphold that tradition for the University of Iowa and schools across the state. 

"In the last 20 years, the state budget has grown by nearly $3 billion, but funding for the university has actually declined. In fiscal 2018, the UI received $7 million less than in 1998 despite enrolling nearly 5,000 additional students."
