Yashwant Prakash Vyas
Yashwant Prakash Vyas earned his Master of Public Administration degree with a concentration in Higher Education Policy and Administration, along with graduate certificates in Public Management and Nonprofit Management from Texas A&M University. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering with minors in Mathematics and Leadership Studies also from Texas A&M University.
Yashwant is an Assistant Director for Diversity Resources in the Division of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. In this role, he leads diversity, equity, inclusion, and social justice trainings for faculty, staff, administrators, students, and local businesses/organizations. He designs training curricula and provides consultation related to creating inclusive workplaces and classrooms, developing and implementing equitable practices and policies, diversifying employees, managing diverse teams, conflict management, and coordination/preparation of strategic plans. He also coordinates various campus wide programs such as Cup o’ Justice, Diversity Catalyst Seed Grant, Women’s Leadership Initiative, International Students Affinity Graduation, and the Alliant Energy Scholarships.
Yashwant has and continues to serve on several university committees: COVID Mental Health Recovery and Postvention Planning Committee; Division of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Strategic Planning Committee; CHOOSE Committee; International Students Committee to name a few. He serves on the Board of Directors for Phi Beta Delta Honor Society for International Scholars. He has presented peer-reviewed educational programs at the annual meetings of national and international scholarly professional associations such as the National Conference on Race and Ethnicity in American Higher Education (NCORE). He has developed and facilitated various leadership and diversity trainings/talks at several national and international leadership events.
As a staff councilor Yashwant strives to proactively contribute to improving workplace climate, to addressing issues facing staff morale and retention, and to advocate for additional staff recognition and professional development.
In his spare time, Yashwant pursues his hobby of drawing and painting.
