The Celebration of Excellence and Achievement Among Women, the university’s annual tribute to the accomplishments of all women at University of Iowa, recognizes outstanding scholarship, research, service, leadership and activism among undergraduate, graduate, staff and faculty women.  
There are three Celebration of Excellence and Achievement Among Women awards for which faculty/staff are eligible.  They are May Brodbeck Distinguished Achievement Award for Faculty, the Susan C. Buckley Distinguished Achievement Award for Staff, and the Jean Y. Jew Women’s Rights Award.  Award winners will be honored at our in-person event on Wednesday, April 2, 2025.

The nomination deadline for Distinguished Achievement Awards is January 24, 2025, Friday, and the nomination deadline for Jean Y. Jew Women’s Rights Award is February 10, 2025. 
  • May Brodbeck for Faculty and Susan C. Buckley for Staff Distinguished Achievement Awards 
    • Eligibility: Female faculty or staff at the University of Iowa, employed in a regular position at 50% or more capacity between January 26, 2024, and January 24, 2025, are eligible. Previous award winners cannot be nominated again.
    • Criteria:
      • Candidates should have notable years of service or significant contributions to the University community.
      • Faculty candidates should demonstrate scholarly achievements, including original research, publications, presentations, or impactful classroom and lab engagement. Staff candidates should show achievement through leadership, innovation, subject matter expertise, excellent customer service, or collaboration. Administrative service at any level (unit, department, college, university, community) is valued for both faculty and staff candidates. All candidates should consistently perform beyond their job duties.
      • All candidates should also serve as role models or mentors to women, girls, or future women scholars and leaders.
    • For the nominations, please provide the following: a statement from the principal nominator addressing the three award criteria, the nominee’s resume/CV or bio, and up to three letters of support, with at least one letter specifically addressing examples related to the award criteria. 
  • The Jean Y. Jew Women’s Rights Award (faculty, staff, or student) 
    • Criteria 
      • Candidates should have a strong record of support for women's rights in a broad sense, a commitment to women's rights at The University of Iowa, and one or more of the following related to women's rights: 
        • Particular contributions to The University of Iowa 
        • Long-standing record of leadership, effort, and activism
        • Accomplishments with national scope or impact
