Biography

Michael A. Fletcher is the Director of the University Counseling Service and co-chair of the UI Suicide Prevention Coalition, boasting a robust educational foundation in clinical psychology. His comprehensive training spans the full spectrum of behavioral health encompassing mental health, substance abuse, and community support services. Prior to his current role, Michael's professional journey included significant positions across diverse behavioral health environments such as psychiatric hospitals, residential centers for youth and adults, community mental health clinics, forensic institutions, public health entities, and governmental bodies. He earned his Psy.D. in Clinical Psychology from the Illinois School of Professional Psychology at Argosy University. Michael is not only a Human Service Board Certified Professional but also holds licensure as a mental health counselor in Iowa and a clinical professional counselor in Illinois. His proficiencies include mediation skills training and partner abuse intervention programs. With over seventeen years in higher education and significant leadership experience, Michael's clinical acumen is complemented by his adeptness in administrative roles.

Originating from Jamaica, Michael has an avid interest in travel, having traversed numerous states across the U.S. and countries worldwide such as Canada, France, Haiti, the Dominican Republic, Costa Rica, Saint-Martin, and the Netherlands Antilles. His explorations have fueled a fervent commitment to social justice, reflecting his deep cultural engagement and understanding.
