Biography

John Laverty is Senior Associate Director, Enrollment Management working in various roles within UI Admissions and Enrollment Management since December 1990. In his current position, Laverty works with various college testing agencies and student search vendors to maximize the university’s student recruitment efforts and help meet target enrollment goals.

Laverty previously served on UI Staff Council from June 2014 – May 2020, including as President in 2017-2018. He served on and/or chaired the following UISC committees: Executive, Diversity, Equity & Inclusion, Elections, Human Resources, Health Care, Awards, and University (Government) Relations. During his tenure as President, he put forth a new policy for support of UI staff volunteering for university-supported activities which was eventually endorsed by other UI Shared Governance bodies, approved by President Harreld, the Iowa Board of Regents and codified in the UI Operations Manual. Laverty worked to redefine the role and scope of the UISC Administrative Coordinator and led the committee which hired Marla Rosenblum into that new role.

Laverty has been active on-campus and in the community over the years, serving on the Cedar Rapids Community School District – Board of Education from 2007 – 2019 including 4 years as Board President; and at UI as a member of the Funded Retirement & Insurance Committee, Path Forward Steering Committee, Faculty & Staff Budget Committee, UI State Fair Booth Committee, UI RAGBRAI Team Committee, UI Executive Leadership Academy, SEA Change Committee, On Iowa! Engage Committee, and Student Success Team.

Laverty is a proud UI alum with two daughters who are also UI graduates. He values the relationships and camaraderie with colleagues across campus and enjoys cheering for the Hawkeyes.
