The Health Care Committee serves as a voice for University of Iowa Health Care employees by identifying concerns, sharing information, and strengthening communication between staff and leadership. The committee works to increase engagement across health care locations, advocate for employee needs, and provide opportunities for staff to share feedback that can help improve the workplace experience.

Health Care  Committee | 2025-26 Impact

During the 2025–26 council year, the Health Care Committee strengthened communication, engagement, and advocacy efforts across University of Iowa Health Care. The committee elevated employee concerns, expanded outreach through The Loop and leadership partnerships, supported major wellness initiatives that connected more than 1,000 employees with resources and services, and created additional opportunities for staff voices to be heard.

1,083 ATTENDEES

Participated in the Health & Well-Being Fair, connecting employees with wellness resources, services, and support programs.

46 VENDORS & 8,000+ INTERACTIONS

Providing staff with direct access to health, wellness, financial, and community resources.

MEDICAL CENTER DOWNTOWN ADVOCACY

Elevated staff concerns related to visibility, resources, and operational challenges through ongoing discussions with leadership.

Purpose:

To facilitate discussion regarding the issues facing UI Health Care staff, and to develop recommendations for a proactive and collaborative approach to problem solving and issue resolution where indicated and with the best interests of UI Health Care staff in mind.

Scope of Concern:

  1. Organize and present relevant information to staff council on UI Health Care specific topics.
  2. Provide feedback to UI Health Care leadership quarterly or more frequently as needed.
  3. Attend UI Health Care forums and meetings as appropriate.

Membership:

All function and organization representatives currently in positions that fall within UI Health Care organizations will automatically be members of the committee.

UI Health Care Leadership Engagement

Staff Council maintained regular and strategic engagement with UI Health Care leadership to discuss key initiatives, address staff concerns, and strengthen partnerships that support the well-being of UI Health Care employees.

Leadership Meetings:

  1. Every 6 weeks, the Health Care Committee co-chairs, along with the Staff Council President, Vice President/President-Elect, and Past President, meet with Karen Butler, Vice President for Medical Affairs.
  2. Throughout the year, Council representatives also meet with UI Health Care leadership, including Dr. Denise Jamieson, Brad Haws, Pat Winokur, Karen Butler, and Kyle Anson.
  3. The full Health Care Committee meets twice annually with the above leadership team to discuss key initiatives, share staff concerns, and build partnerships that support the well-being of UI Health Care employees.
