Cathy McGinnis is a University Counseling Service Embedded Staff Therapist in University Housing and Dining. In this role, she provides individual therapy and outreach with students living in any of the residence halls. She is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor and a Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor. Cathy has been with the University since January 2023, and prior to that worked in the Human Services field for more than 20 years, working with people with substance use disorders and people in the criminal justice system. She is a two-time alumna of the University of Iowa and one of many people who came to Iowa City for college and never left, way back in a year that shall not be named. In her free time, Cathy likes reading, crafting, and spending time with her three adorable and headstrong dogs.
