The Awards Committee promotes a culture of recognition by administering Staff Council awards programs and celebrating the outstanding contributions of University of Iowa staff and faculty. Through the nomination and selection process, the committee helps recognize individuals whose service, leadership, and accomplishments positively impact the university community.

Awards Committee | 2025–26 Impact
During the 2025–26 council year, the Awards Committee administered the Staff Council Awards Program, resulting in 44 nominations, recognition of 18 award recipients, and $14,000 awarded through Staff Council recognition programs. These efforts helped celebrate excellence and reinforce a culture of appreciation across the University of Iowa.

Purpose:
To recognize and reward staff for exemplary service to the university and/or to the community.
Scope of Concern:
Administer and manage awards that recognize staff contributions, including:
- David J. Skorton Award for Staff Excellence in Service to the University of Iowa
- The University of Iowa Outstanding Staff Award
- Board of Regents Staff Excellence Award
- Richard E. Gibson Merit Staff Award for Innovation and Excellence in Customer Service
- Staff Award for Welcoming and Respectful Environment
Scope of Concern:
Call for nominations for the awards in the fall of each year:
- Nominations to open the second Monday of November each year.
- Nominations to close the second Friday of January each year.
Review submissions in terms of requirements.
Convene a Selections Committee to evaluate and determine the awards for nominated staff, to include Council Past President and Council Awards Committee chair(s)
Scope of Concern:
Submit winner information to the Office of the President for recognition at Institutional Awards Ceremony.
Notify nominators, recipients and other nominees.
Notify Council, Office of the President, University organizations, Office of Strategic Communication, and other appropriate media.
Report activities to the Council.
