Every year the Staff Council provides support to a number of University of Iowa events.  So far this fall, staff councilors could be seen in action within the On Iowa! program and the University of Iowa booth at the Iowa State Fair in Des Moines.  On Iowa! is held over several days during the week before the fall semester commences for all incoming first year and new transfer students.  Staff Council volunteers are important to the success of this program because of the numbers of events that are scheduled, and the volunteers benefit from the opportunity to share their Hawkeye spirit with the students and their parents, and other university community members.  Councilors could be found at several events such handing out t-shirts during the welcome sessions, staffing the food tables at the President’s Block Party, and directing students to Kickoff at Kinnick, where students participate in the Hawkeye tradition of posing in a giant block letter "I" on Duke Slater field.  Staff Councilors could also be spotted at the University of Iowa booth at the Iowa State Fair in Des Moines, where they greeted fair attendees and distributed Hawkeye swag.  This booth provided a chance for fairgoers to share their connections to the University of Iowa and grab a quick picture with Herky.
