The University of Iowa Staff Council (UISC) plays a pivotal role for staff advocacy and shared governance across campus.  Comprising 55 elected members, UISC seats representatives by both unit and function.  Councilors meet monthly to discuss initiatives, programs, and strategic goals that impact staff.  Councilors meet monthly to discuss initiatives, programs, and strategic goals that impact staff.  UISC collaborates with other shared governance organizations (Faculty Senate, Undergraduate Student Government, and Graduate and Professional Student Government), and organizes events designed to increase engagement and volunteerism.

Most councilors work with two committees, each of which are tasked with furthering UISC’s mission in a specific area.

In addition to the Executive Committee, which comprises UISC leadership, committees exist for the following focus areas:

  • Awards
  • Bylaws
  • Committees
  • Communication
  • Community Outreach
  • Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion
  • Education
  • Elections
  • Health Care
  • Human Resources
  • Merit Supervisory Exempt/Confidential (MSE/C)
  • University Relations

Committees meet monthly and report back to the main UISC body to discuss goals and initiatives for improving the experience and career opportunities for staff.
