In June, UI Staff Councilors Jenni Yoder and Anne Hinkle invited other councilors to walk in the Iowa City Pride Parade that took place downtown. Several councilors joined in to celebrate and to promote diversity, equity, and inclusion and to remind parade-goers that UI staff is made up of a diversity of individuals. Iowa City Pride is an organization that seeks to “increase positive visibility of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer/questioning, intersex, and asexual/agender/aromantic (LGBTQIAA) community of Iowa City, by providing opportunities to express and celebrate diverse perspectives, emphasizing acceptance of all individuals regardless of sexual orientation, gender identity or gender expression.” Staff Councilor Brett Cloyd said that he was glad to be part of this fun event and to support the LGBT community by participating in the Pride Parade.
