Staff Council continued its annual tradition of volunteering at the UI Booth at the Iowa State Fair, reminding Iowans of the dedicated staff that help power the University of Iowa.

Staff Council members passed out swag, rolled thousands of Iowa Football posters, and answered questions from some of the thousands of fairgoers passing by the booth in the southwest corner of the Varied Industries Building. The booth featured a life-sized Herky statue and several championship trophies from the past year, including the Heartland Tro;phy and the Iowa Women's Big Ten basketball championship trophy. Council members were on hand for a couple of special visits – Iowa Men's basketball great and former NCAA basketball player of the year, Luka Garza, and Herky.

Fairgoers can stop by the booth to speak to an admissions counselor, pick up a football poster, and celebrate the Hawkeyes.

The 170-year-old event set a record with 1,182,682 fairgoers this year, according to organizers. The State Fair was held Aug. 8-18 at the State Fairgrounds in Des Moines.

Thank you to Staff Council members who volunteered, including Amanda Bibb, Amir Bozorgzadeh, Brett Cloyd, Shawn Eyestone, Makur Jain, Molly James, James Jorris, Brian Morelli, Cathy McGinnis, and Casey Westlake. They helped staff the UI Booth on August 12 and August 17. The UI Booth was open 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. each day of the fair.
