Josey Bathke, JD, MBA, ARM-P, SPHR
Josey Bathke is the Director of Risk Management, Insurance and Loss prevention at the University of Iowa. In this role she works to minimize the risk of financial loss to the University through identification and analysis of risk, implementation of loss control programs and contractual transfer or other risk reduction or financing techniques. Josey came to the University in 2000 as a graduate student. Upon graduating with her JD and MBA, she joined the University’s Office of General Counsel as an Assistant Counsel and then Associate Counsel working with departments and campus leaders on legal issues facing higher education. She then went to ACT, Inc. for two years as in-house counsel. In 2010 she returned to the University of Iowa as the Director of Employee and Labor Relations in University Human Resources. There she was responsible for managing relationships between the university and its employees to ensure fair and consistent treatment of all employees. Josey has also been an Adjunct Assistant Professor at the Tippie College of Business for almost twenty years teaching various classes including Nonprofit Organizational Effectiveness with former UI President Sandy Boyd, Business Ethics and Employment Law.
Josey’s hobbies include visiting as many MLB stadiums as possible, spoiling her nieces and nephews and rescuing chihuahuas. She currently has four chihuahuas – Max (11), Leo (11), Milo (10) and Stretch (1). She has an active and noisy house!
