Matsalyn Brown, Staff Council organizational representative for the Tippie College of Business, is playing a major role in new efforts, along with the UI Staff Council’s DEI Committee, to improve diversity, equity, and inclusion on campus. Matsalyn has been appointed as the staff council representative on the Reimagining Campus Safety Action Committee. The committee seeks to “identify strategies, tactics, and timelines for creating a campus community that supports the safety of all individuals, with particular attention to people who have traditionally experienced disproportionate harm from systems such as law enforcement.” As highlighted in a recent Iowa Now Article, the committee will work diligently to identify policies and practices that will be implemented by July 1, 2021 to ensure a safe and inclusive campus community. Matsalyn is just one of many Staff Council representatives advocating for staff by participating on University committees.
