For the past several years, OnIowa! volunteers have welcomed first-year undergraduates and transfer students to the UI campus. They coordinate explorations of campus, business “crawls,” facilities tours, introductions to organizations that connect students, and lots of fun social activities to help students transition to college life. They also provide students and staff with opportunities to help students move into their new living spaces - i.e. the residence halls. Staff Councilors have been volunteering in this way for many years. In 2022, long-time Staff Councilor Ted Potter and new Councilor Abbie Beadle teamed up to move new students into the westside residence halls. “We had a blast moving in students from New Jersey, Wisconsin, Illinois, and of course, Iowa.” OnIowa! is just one of many volunteer opportunities for UI staff during the year. Contact the Staff Council Community Outreach Committee for more information.
