IMU Food Pantry
Stephanie Beecher, Basic Needs Coordinator within Office of the Dean of Students, shared information about the Food Pantry, located in the Iowa Memorial Union, with Staff Councilors this month. Beecher presented data on food insecurity, an overview of the Food Pantry at Iowa, and usage data for the Food Pantry.
The Food Pantry aims to provide students, faculty, and staff with nutritious, safe, and culturally relevant foods. Since 2020, they have seen a significant increase in visits to the food pantry and have more than quadrupled the amount of food distributed on an annual basis. 82% of their clients struggle to afford balanced meals, but there are no prerequisites to visiting the pantry and anyone in need can stop by for resources.
The pantry is funded largely by undergraduate fees and partners with several local organizations to provide items to clients but is always in need of additional resources and donations. If you are interested in ways to support the pantry, please see the call to action below.
