Councilor Spotlight MA 10-2024.JPG

Any idea who represents you on Staff Council? The feedback we’ve received suggests that many University staff members would answer “no.” The Councilor Spotlight series is intended to introduce new Council members and how they serve the University on Staff Council. Why would you want to contact your representative? They can elevate your concerns or ideas, help you find information, and connect you with resources across campus. Marie Adams, Ph.D., is a Licensed Psychologist, Assistant Director of Training at UCS, Co-Chair for UI’s Suicide Prevention Coalition, and Staff Council Function Representative for Behavioral Health and Healthcare staff members. Marie joined the University of Iowa in 2021 and has become an involved member of the University serving on the Healthcare Committee and University Relations Committee on Staff Council.

When asked what Marie hopes to learn or achieve while serving on Staff Council, she responded, “I hope to engage more deeply with staff across our university and enhance my networking and leadership skills.”

Some additional Q&A with Marie:

Q: What is something you do outside of work for fun?
A: Hiking, weightlifting, reading, and spending time with my family.

Q: What is your favorite local spot or attraction?
A: Lake Macbride State Park

Q: If you could have any superhero power, what would it be and why?
A: To be able to speak every language, because communicating accurately and meaningfully with someone is one of the most profound acts of kindness and courage that human beings can do for each other.
