Abbott and the Big Ten Conference are pitting all of the Big Ten schools against each other for the second year in a row to see who can bring in the most blood donors! The winning school will be awarded $1 million that will go toward student and community health. Additionally, while supplies last, donors will score a limited-edition Homefield T-shirt. Last year the Hawkeyes came in 6th place with Nebraska winning the big prize.
Locally, the UI DeGowin Blood Center has appointments available at blood drives across campus and the community, as well as at their donation center at University of Iowa Health Care, University Campus (C250 GH, Elevator B). All of the whole blood and platelets collected by DeGowin will be used to support patients at UI Health Care and Stead Family Children’s Hospital, the epitome of Hawkeyes helping Hawkeyes! Appointments at DeGowin and at their blood drives can be made here: Home - DeGowin Blood Center.
Hawkeyes across the country can donate at any center and submit their donation for the University of Iowa, so you can encourage your family and friends near and far to participate as well.
Help us tackle blood shortages by donating through the DeGowin Blood Center until Friday, Dec. 5.
