Sara E. Miller, research manager in the Iowa Institute for Oral Health Research in the College of Dentistry and Dental Clinic, has played a critical role in advancing dental science and improving public health, ultimately benefiting countless individuals, during her time at the University of Iowa.

In Miller’s role, she supports the clinical and laboratory research of 70 faculty, leveraging a deep understanding of the Institutional Review Board application and submission process, and Environmental Health and Safety policies.

“My personal goal is to ensure that our research complies with all regulatory standards while striving to make our processes more efficient and effective,” Miller said. “This dedication helps us achieve excellence in our research endeavors.”

Hailing from the close-knit community of around 950 people in Danville, Iowa, Miller followed an "unwavering passion for science and research” to University of Iowa, earning a Bachelor of Science in biology, a Master of Public Health in epidemiology, and a Master of Business Administration.

After completing her degrees, Miller joined the Carver College of Medicine as research assistant in 2011.

“It was a dream come true to work at such a prestigious institution right after completing my undergraduate degree where I fell in love with conducting research and making discoveries,” Miller said.

Miller joined the College of Dentistry seven years ago and has continued making a profound impact.

In 2023, Miller was recognized with the University of Iowa’s Distinguished Research Professional Award.

“The true motivation behind my work is the incredible faculty, staff, students, and research subjects I have the honor of serving,” Miller said. “Their dedication and passion inspire me to contribute my best to our collective mission.”

Outside of work, Miller enjoys vacationing in Florida, where she embraces art museums and botanical gardens, such as the Vizcaya Museum and Gardens in Miami, Florida.

“These experiences rejuvenate my spirit and inspire my creativity,” Miller said.
