Monica Smith BSN,RN,CNRN serves as an Assistant Nurse Manager on 6JC Neurology/Neurosurgery  Intermediate Inpatient Unit at the University of Iowa Health Care   

She has extensive healthcare leadership experience and oversees nursing clinical practice, development, education, and outcomes on her unit.  

She has spent her career as a nurse on the same unit at the University of Iowa Health Care. She will be celebrating her 30year anniversary in June. 

She serves on multiple hospital wide shared governance and professional committees. She engages in multiple PI, quality and safety initiatives. Her longevity, hard work and dedication to her unit are indicative of her commitment to the hospital and the university. 

Monica moved to Iowa City the fall of 1990 and never left. Since then, she has raised her wonderful son here, obtained two bachelor’s degrees from the University of Iowa and is an active member of the community. 

She is interested in serving on a broader, more global committee. She wishes to be an advocate for staff which aligns with the mission of the Council.
