Do you know who represents you on Staff Council? Many staff members have told us they’d like to learn more about their representatives. The Councilor Spotlight series is intended to introduce new Council members and how they serve the University on Staff Council. Why would you want to contact your representative? Meet Michael Nosbisch, Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist and dedicated Staff Council Functional Representative, who brings nearly four decades of clinical experience and a passion for service to the University of Iowa.

Michael has been providing anesthesia for 39 years, with the last 4.5 years spent serving patients across multiple clinical sites through the University. His role in Anesthesia/CMED is marked by a deep commitment to patient care, professional excellence, and collaboration across departments.

As a representative for behavioral health employees on Staff Council, Michael serves on both the Bylaws and Health Care committees. His goals while serving include expanding his professional network, fostering meaningful connections across campus, and supporting initiatives that promote healthy, sustainable work environments for all employees.

Michael’s approach to life and leadership is rooted in a strong sense of purpose, driven by a desire to help others and make a meaningful impact. He finds fulfillment in supporting those around him, both professionally and personally.

Outside of work, he enjoys gardening, listening to music, and spending quality time with his wife, family, and friends. His idea of a perfect day includes an early morning 4-mile walk, a hearty breakfast, working on a home project or lending a hand to a friend, and winding down with quiet time, reading, or music in the evening.

A proud Hawkeye fan, Michael’s favorite local spot is the North End Zone on game day, where he cheers until he’s hoarse. His walk-in theme song would be “Good Morning” by Mandisa—an upbeat track that reflects his optimistic spirit. If he could choose a superpower, it would be the ability to fly, symbolizing freedom, perspective, and connection.
