Meet Kayla Faust, Clinical Trials Coordinator and Data Manager, who brings deep institutional knowledge, a passion for data-driven decision-making, and a strong commitment to employee well-being to her role on Staff Council.

Kayla has been part of the University of Iowa community for 15 years, beginning as an undergraduate in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. Her journey continued through graduate school and a PhD in the College of Public Health, followed by a postdoctoral role and now her current position in research. In her work, Kayla serves research participants, researchers, and industry sponsors, playing a vital role in advancing clinical research and data integrity at the University.

She currently serves on Staff Council as the Functional Representative for Research; Scientific Services. Kayla is an active and engaged councilor, contributing her time and expertise to the Human Resources, University Relations, and Healthcare Committees. While not an official member of the Outreach Committee, she is also a strong and consistent supporter and volunteer.

For Kayla, serving on Staff Council is an opportunity to advocate for meaningful improvements in employees’ day-to-day experiences. She is especially interested in using data-driven approaches to identify ways the University can both enhance employee morale and quality of life while also operating more efficiently. Her goal is to help implement solutions that benefit both staff and the institution as a whole.

Outside of work, Kayla enjoys spending time outdoors with her family and dogs, especially camping and kayaking. She is deeply inspired by her 6-year-old daughter, whose kindness and willingness to help others motivates Kayla to bring that same spirit of generosity and compassion into her own life.

If a song played every time Kayla walked into a room, it would be “Stand by You” by Rachel Platten—a fitting anthem of support, resilience, and standing by others, which reflects her commitment to advocacy and care for the university community.
