The Abbott & Big Ten We Give Blood Drive is back for its third year, and the University of Iowa is ready to move up the rankings. Last year, the Hawkeyes finished 5th out of 18 Big Ten schools. This year, every donation helps Iowa climb the leaderboard while addressing critical blood shortages.
See how Iowa is doing in the Big Ten blood donation standings.
Since launching in 2024, the campaign has generated more than 100,000 blood donations nationwide, impacting more than 300,000 lives. Every two seconds, someone in the United States needs blood, and a single donation can help save up to three lives.
For Iowa donors, the impact is local. Blood and platelets donated through the DeGowin Blood Center support patients at University of Iowa Health Care and Stead Family Children's Hospital. Some of the youngest patients rely on blood that is less than seven days old, making local donors an essential part of their care.
Donations can be made at the DeGowin Blood Center (C250 GH, Elevator B) or at blood drives across campus and the community. Hawkeyes across the country can participate too by donating at a local blood center and logging their donation for the University of Iowa. Those who donate and log their donation are eligible to receive a limited-edition Iowa Gives Blood T-shirt while supplies last. Learn how to participate and claim your T-shirt.
The competition runs through December 4, 2026. Help Iowa climb the Big Ten leaderboard and make a lifesaving difference for patients who depend on blood donations every day. Schedule your appointment at Home - DeGowin Blood Center.
