The Community Outreach Committee promotes service, volunteerism, and community engagement among Staff Council members. Through volunteer events, donation drives, partnerships with community organizations, and recognition initiatives, the committee provides opportunities for councilors to make a meaningful impact both on campus and throughout the surrounding community.

Community Outreach Committee | 2025-26 Impact

During the 2025–26 council year, the Community Outreach Committee expanded volunteer and service opportunities while strengthening partnerships with local organizations. Through 46 volunteer opportunities, 538.5 volunteer hours, donation drives, and recognition initiatives, the committee fostered a culture of service and engagement among Staff Council members while making a meaningful impact throughout the community.

68% COUNCILOR PARTICIPATION

More than two-thirds of councilors participated in at least one volunteer opportunity during the year.

Providing meaningful ways for councilors to engage with the community and support local organizations.

750+ POUNDS OF FOOD COLLECTED

Along with monetary donations, nearly doubling the previous year's total and helping support Pantry@Iowa and employees experiencing food insecurity.

Purpose:

To foster a relationship with campus and the surrounding community by promoting volunteerism among Staff Councilors.

Scope of Concern:

  1. Collaborate with Staff Council members to identify volunteer opportunities across campus and in the surrounding community.
  2. Organize volunteer opportunities for Staff Council participation.
  3. Encourage Staff Council members to document and submit their University and Council-related volunteer efforts to the Community Outreach Committee and provide a procedure to do so.
